| Re: Skiathos > Abzocke CAMPING Hi! My name is Nuria and I live in Sweden. I have been spending some days in Skiathos and I have to say that I completly agree with Nicholas (i can German but I am too bad to write in a forum :-P). The point is that actually there isn´t any other camping in Skiathos than Koukounaries because Camping Asselinos closed for some time ago. So, are you »backpacking« in Skiathos you MUST stay in Koukounaries camping and pay 10,5€/person and day. The camping is not structured in places so YOU have to go around and find a place with shadow (if you are lucky to find one!!). The owner of the camping Dimitris Fourkalas doesn´t really know what »being nice« or »giving service« means. He is sitting in his chair the whole day, under the shadow of course, and commanding his worker Giorgos whatever he wants him to do... He doesn´t even stand up when you (a costumer) come to the camping reception (only when you are living and paying, of course). The toilets are not even clean and the ring that you eventually would use to sit on is missing... and so is the toilet paper!!! (so take some paper from home with you if you don´t want to spend 1€ for a roll in the nearest shop!!). The lightening in the showers/toilets are too dark and most of the doors doesn´t close, so you are »shiting«/showering with the risk that someone opens your door... :-( The beach is not so close as it stays in every homepage or info of the camping (it´s about 1Km from there) and the shops are really really expensive!!! (The last day we found a really cheap DIA%Supermarket and a Champion Supermarket near the city. After 2 days in Skiathos we took a ferry to Skopelos. We were going to stay there for 3 days. From the first moment in Skopelos we understood that we had been loosing time in Skiathos... So, if you want to get good advice from me, I recommend you to skipp Skiathos and travel all the way to Skopelos!! The city is so much more cozy and nice even if there is no camping in the island. It is less tourist and you can see greeks who are living in the island... which you don´t in Skiathos... I recomend you to book a place to stay (there are nice studios to book for more or less 50€/night 2 people) before you come to the island, if you do not whant to be forced to search for a new studio to stay everyday. It is going to cost you a litle bit more than staying in a camping in Skiathos (even if the camping is so expensive) but it is worth not to stay in Skiathos and to be in Skopelos less days and get the real »flair« of Greece. If you have an A1 driving license you can hire a motorbike and drive to the nearest beaches with turquise water, or you can take the bus which costs 1,90€ one way and stay in the beach for a day. I even recomend you to visit the »fast land« (not the islands)... Halkidiki is for example a very nice area to stay with lots of nice beaches and cozy »Tabernas«. And if you are travelling by car, you are going to be able to see lots of fields with olive and fruit trees. A really nice scenario! Have a nice holyday in Greece!!! Nuria. |
